New Director Search

A Bit About Us

Our choir recently celebrated 50 years of bringing uplifting choral music to southwest Saskatchewan. We are a non-auditioned group made up of about 50 singers from Swift Current and surrounding communities, guided by a Board of Directors made up of choir members. We rehearse at Zion Mennonite Church, a venue known for its acoustics, on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.

Many of our members have been recognized with the Saskatchewan Choral Federation’s “Golden Note” award, in recognition of at least 25 years active participation in the choral arts. In 2022 we participated in the Swift Current Music Festial, achieving excellent results. And we have been invited and participated twice with Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY), performing as part of a mass international choir (300+) on stage in Carnegie Hall.

We present two concerts annually: a Christmas-themed concert in December, and a spring concert in April. Traditionally the spring concert has been a full oratorio work, either classic or contemporary, accompanied by a chamber group of the Regina Symphony Orchestra. However, to reach out to younger singers and appeal to a wider audience, we have recently been pursuing a less traditional approach to the spring concert—embracing a variety of sacred, secular and contemporary music. While we are excited about our new direction, we will continue to explore exciting new oratorio works.

Moving Forward

After 21 years at the helm of the Swift Current Oratorio Choir, Marcia McLean stepped down as our director at the end of 2024. We have grown and indeed thrived under her guidance, but we understand her desire to travel and spend more time with family. Thus we are seeking a new choral director to join our organization.

This is an honorarium position, and accommodation for mileage can be arranged. Responsibilities will include repertoire selection, conducting rehearsals and the two concerts, and collaborating with our extremely talented accompanist and the Board of Directors.

We have an extensive library of music, we purchase new music regularly, and we borrow from the Choral Federation. A repertoire has been selected for our 2025 spring concert, with a working title of “Some of Our Favourite Things.”

This is an exciting opportunity for a choral director to join a talented, progressive and vibrant choir. The joy of singing is present at every rehearsal. Come and see what we’re about. We would be thrilled to have you meet us, and sit in on a rehearsal. Mileage and a per diem can be arranged. If you have any questions, or would like to arrange a visit, please contact:
